Stupidity is me

So, I fell off my bike.

How? I really don’t know, it was a one person wipe-out. I’m just happy there was no car behind me, otherwise I might have worse than a beat up shin and a battered elbow (not to mention a tender bum and a bruised ego!)

Anyway, the result for me is more annoying than painful. My front tire is toast, and I just bought new bike gear from MEC! I was going to tune it up, and get her riding super sweet. Now I need to do that AND get a new front tire. Eff.

I also ruined my brand new pair of shorts my mom bought me less than a week ago! How crap is that? Back to zero shorts, now :(

Anyway, if you want to see pictures of my damage, they’re below, save any photos of my bum…

Peace (but, ride hard).

Watson Wins!

Watson won big at the Bellagio Cup IV! First place, two bracelets (WPT and a Bellagio bracelet) and 1.6 million in cash!

See a video with the winner here and read about it here! Mike also has his own poker blog where he recounts his days at tournaments. I’m sure he’ll have an update about his win, but give him a few days - let the man celebrate!

Congrats, Mike! I was on my friends Blackberry in the theatre for The Dark Knight looking at the updates right up til you won, which happened to be right before the movie started! Great timing ;)

Peace.

Watson, take 2

Mike is now at the final table with five players left! He’s guaranteed more than 190K [edit: 3 players left, guaranteed more than 450K]!

Live updates via the web at World Poker Tour.

Peace (and 1.6 million).

Go Watson!

So, at the moment of writing this, my friend Mike is in the top 32 of a big poker tournament at the Bellagio in Las Vegas! According to the World Poker Tour web site, first prize is 1.6 million, and Mike has the chip lead going into day four. This is going to be a hard day for everyone there. Three full days already, and now a huge grind to make a top 6 table that will be filmed for later television viewing!

Here’s to Mike playing his best through day four!

Peace

Apartment hunting woes, more Polaroid and a new bike!

I am in the process of looking for a new apartment. Mine is more than I want to pay, and with a cheaper apartment, I might even be able to afford a monthly bus pass, as TransLink has not seen it within their mandate to provide a reasonably priced bus pass to all the post-secondary institutes in the lower mainland. But, I do not wish to rant about transportation, at least not right now.

No, more important right now is looking for a shiny new apartment. I have so far found, and been denied, two great apartments in great locations, both very reasonably priced. The first was at Ontario and 23nd for $380 POU, and the second was at Cambie and 22nd for $425 POU. I preferred the one on Cambie, but I found out today that went to someone else.

So, tomorrow I have my hopes up again for a place at Balaclava and 6th. I may have emailed the person first, and they seem cool with the short description of myself that I sent, so hopefully I can get it when I go see it! It’s also very cheap - $400 + internet - so, awesome! Hopefully myself and the UBC grad student click, and the place is nice (listed as newly renovated). So yes, hopes up.

As I mentioned before, I’ve really been bitten by the Polaroid bug! I keep making Polaroids as I move about my life, and I’ve now got a nice collection of 3×4s! Adding to that stack are a few new favourites:

Self Portrait in Polaroid
This is my new favourite self-portrait along with, not a transfer, but the actual Polaroid negative! I think it’s awesome.

Boss
‘Boss’ is written on (at least) one of the tanks on Beatty and Dunsmuir. I think I did a fine job of composing this ‘roid.

Duffin's Donuts
Finally in my favourite new Polaroids is this sign from Duffin’s Donuts. This particular outlet is closed and run down, but I hear that there may be another somewhere else in Vancouver.

To top off this post, I will not only show you another Polaroid, not to mention another Polaroid transfer, but also, a photo of my new bike, all rolled into one! I got this bike a little more than a week ago (last Sunday) and I love it. So much fun to ride!

New bicycle/polaroid transfer
Ain’t she a beauty? Things left to be done: straighten the rim on my brand new back wheel (I got the wheel last Tuesday! I don’t know what I did…), get a new chain, find a single gear crank for the back wheel (using the multi-gear crank from the old set-up for now), clean out the pedals (they seem to make some awful noise), tighten the handle bars (according to Butters who bar tends at The Whip, they’re a bit loose) and possibly also do something about the bearings in my back tire - they also seem to be making noise :) I cannot wait to learn how to do this stuff! So excited!

Peace.

Insomnia…

So tonight and last night, I’ve been struck with some insomnia. Not hardcore, no sleeping whatsoever insomnia, just your run of the mill, can’t sleep until 4 or 5am type insomnia. This is bad, as I need to get up at 9 for work tomorrow (or, later today I guess…)

The up side is that I’m updating my website!

Except that I don’t really have anything else to say right now…

Uh… I’m going to upload some more photos to flickr soon. I’ve been doing some scanning at school, and so I’ve got a bunch of recent photos coming. Actually, there are some new Polaroids up from my time at the University Golf Club last night - I was working for Purdy’s, handing out Dark Chocolate bars to the women participating in the golf tournament. It was pretty chill (as in easy-going and cool temperatures!), and an extra few hours of work for me this week!

I think I’m going to look for a second job. Given my school schedule for the coming two months (I start two courses on Monday!) I don’t get to work every Tuesday and Thursday for the entire month of July, and the majority of August. That’s unacceptable, so I’m going to get a second part time job for those days. I was thinking of trying to get a job I can work during the evenings, but I think I should keep them free for school work.

And finally, I think I’ve mentioned other people finding my Ninja Turtles song and really liking it (OK, I think there was one…) but I’ve found another one! This one is some guy who apparently not only loves the Ninja Turtles, but is also in a band, and is, I think, Spanish, or speaks Spanish… Anyway, if you’re so inclined, you can check out the blog in question. The site is called Costroblog and the blog post in question is titled “I want to be a Ninja Turtle”!

Peace.

Fun with Polaroid!

So, I’ve been bitten by the Polaroid bug. I think I caught it from either Jason or Anne, but whoever it was, I’ve caught it! I’ve been using Anne’s Polaroid Automatic 103 since she left, and it’s so much fun! I can actually find film for this camera at Beau, where as the whole city is dry of Polaroid 600 film!

The great thing about the pack film that I have to use with the 103 is that with some of the films (specifically, 669 and also the Fuji film that fits in it) is that you can do transfers from the negatives! What does that mean? Basically, once you pull the positive from the negative, you can then stick the negative onto another surface, and transfer the image onto that second surface! I’ve got some examples that I did in a very impromptu way:

Purdy's Ice Cream bar

Colin

You can tell from the paper that they were very off the cuff transfers! Technically, I think you’re supposed to use wet paper, and use a printers roller, but I didn’t have those at my disposal! Anyway, I’ve been having lots off fun with this camera, and experimenting with this process. Expect more Polaroid in my flickr stream.

to see the rest of my Polaroids, check out my Polaroid flickr set.

Peace.
